In every pageant, there will always be a 1st Runner-Up. The lady who is extremely close to winning, but fell short in the end and whose only hope for vindication is if the titleholder is unable to fulfill her duties and responsibilities, by which time they might take over.

This year, Elaine Kay Moll, Mary Anne Ross Misa and Glennifer Perido are those ladies. They could almost smell the scent of victory in their respective competitions. In the end, though, everything was just a whiff and the crown landed on another woman’s head. Could be heartbreaking for two of them and acceptable for one.

In the case of Elaine, she still stands a chance of re-joining Bb. Pilipinas 2013 and possibly winning a title. Now that she is gradually gaining the good graces of BPCI and Mrs. Stella Marquez de Araneta, the scenario is not at all far-fetched. If it could happen to previous first-runners-up-turned-beauty-queens Dianne Necio and Janine Tugonon, then why should she be deprived of the same?

Going now to Mary Anne Ross, her 1st Princess placement may come with a crown and a cash prize of P250,000.00. But still, she won’t be going anywhere, will not wear the Philippine sash abroad and worse, not get the full amount if she is unable to face up to the obligations of a 1st Princess for the next 12 months. It’s a sad state indeed since she joined Miss World Philippines after failing to place in Bb. Pilipinas 2010. If her close friendship with Queenie Rehman can be considered a small source of comfort, then that’s where she will take solace from.

And how about Glennifer? Well, she qualifies as a professional joiner by now – having participated in Bb. Pilipinas 2011, Miss Casino Filipino 2011 and Miss Philippines Earth where she snatched the 2nd-highest element. There is a possibility of being sent to one of the 2nd-tier international tilts which have partnered with Carousel Productions, but not guaranteed. Bottomline is that she is not at all tickled pink by being the Queen of Air. If it’s any consolation, the Top 5 are consistently involved in eco-related activities all throughout their elemental reigns.

So what’s next for these three beauties? I cannot answer with certainty but whatever it is they focus on should hopefully be more successful and fulfilling. :-)
